The Creation and Our Environment on Bended Knee

By Scriptural Knowledge Tabernacle

Our nation is fighting a silent battle that only a few have the courage to acknowledge. Majority of us remain docile and unconcerned as illegal mining decimates the purity of our water sources. While there is no evidence that when God created and gifted mankind with the resources recorded in Genesis 1:10-12, Ghana and Ghanaians were not given special permission to destroy everything made and created by the Almighty, it appears that is the position or mindset of many in this country called Ghana regarding our environment.

In our quest to make a living, we have broken every sacred rule of nature to make enough money, even if it means destroying our own lives and that of future generations.

And how did we end up here – in this hopeless state? The very soul of the nation has switched to sleep mode but is awakened to greed mode and, in the process, we have lost our way to adore and love the gods of gold and silver which is akin to love of money – the root of evil.

A self-inflicted evil has befallen our nation and there is no Saviour as everyone goes about their daily lives. Majority of our clergy, the voice of conscience and only hope for moral revival, are unconcerned, as many of us poor sons and daughters of Adam and Eve flock to church services to connect and fellowship with our Maker.

We fearlessly dishonour our Maker by going about our daily activities with no moral conscience, cheating, robbing, and shortchanging the system just to get by and earn a couple of cedis at the expense of destroying our water bodies with dynamite and mercury – the same sources of water used to tend farmlands so we can have food on the table.

It appears that our primary reason for attending church or claiming to be Christian is to consistently get provision for a need. ….. Give us this day our daily bread and whether or not we have gone on a reckless rampage to destroy anything and everything living and creeping on earth at the moment.

But beyond desiring our daily bread A. W. Tozer noted that by far a greater portion of the book (the Bible) is devoted to an urgent effort to persuade people to change their ways and bring their lives into harmony with the will of God.

Thus goes the challenge…will our muted voices of conscience – the clergy—boldly alter their preaching style, presenting the Gospel such that their members will change to conform to the will of God? Just for the sake of our collective spiritual and material well-being as this country sinks deeper and deeper even beyond the state of the Titanic with behaviours that are neither biblical nor reflective of our values as a Christian nation.

In the August 12, 2024 edition of Fresh Word, Louis Jones wrote, “For God so loved the world… John 3:16…not for God so loved humans only, the crown of His creation.” The world used here is cosmos. God has given us significance. He gave us authority over the world but with that authority he gave us responsibility to love it as he does and to work for its salvation.

So who will save our environment—God or our collective conscience and responsibilities to love the creation just as God so loved the world and gave us His son?
